The Test - Neo Geo: Sengoku 3

Sengoku 3 represents the latest action game for the Neo Geo MVS platform.  The game itself has been reviewed as uninspired and lacking the enjoyment of the first 2 in the series, but I will try to concentrate on what counts hardware wise.

The game looks great from screenshots, but suffers from slightly poor animation and lackluster music.  The characters and enemies look great on-screen, they just feel like they need another handful frames to really look smooth in action.  The sound is below-average for a Neo Geo title, but it is in Stereo and the musical score really is no fault of the hardware.

Overall, what leaves me wondering is the control and lack of animation frames.  Is it just lazy programming, or could the hardware just not handle the extra frames that would be needed to animate the large characters present in the game while juggling other graphics.

Regardless of how this title is perceived, the Neo Geo has nothing to be ashamed of, and handles everything this game can throw at it.  I just wonder why the game itself didn't have more.  Is it due to hardware or programming?
